Bishop Pablo Virgilio David of Caloocan will be installed as a cardinal of the Catholic Church by Pope Francis in December, the Vatican City announced on Sunday.

Bishop Pablo Virgilio “Ambo” David from Caloocan has been named a cardinal by Pope Francis. The announcement was made on Sunday, October 6, 2024, with Pope Francis calling out the names of the 21 new cardinals of the Catholic Church from a small balcony overlooking St. Peter’s Square.

A few days after being announced as one of the new cardinals, Bishop and incumbent president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Pablo Virgilio David finally met Pope Francis.

Cardinal-designate Pablo Virgilio David had a candid meeting with Pope Francis a few days after his appointment at the Synod Hall in Vatican City, according to the Roman Catholic Bishop of Kalookan social media account.

Pope Francis on Oct. 6 revealed the appointment of 21 new cardinals, among them Bishop David, who also serves as the president of the CBCP.
