The 49ers surprisingly signed veteran center Matt Hennessy off the Atlanta Falcons practice squad to a two-year deal this week. On Friday, offensive line coach Chris Foerster was asked about Hennessy.

Williams initially was not placed on the IR, with hope that he'd return this season. However, the injury has not improved in condition, and Williams' season has officially been ended. Kyle Shanahan was asked about the potential of the injury being a long-term or perhaps career-ending issue for Williams.

To replace the open roster spot left by Williams' move to IR, the 49ers signed offensive lineman Matt Hennessy to a two-year contract. Hennessy has appeared in 45 games over the last four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons and started all 17 games for Atlanta in 2021 at center.
