TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — When ankle-deep floodwaters from Hurricane Helene bubbled up through the floors of their home, Kat Robinson-Malone and her husband sent a late-night text message to their neighbors two doors down: “Hey, we’re coming.”

While the newly developed storm-proof homes have endured a few storms since people moved in last year, Hurricanes Helene and Milton put those features to the test.

President Joe Biden made remarks in St. Pete Beach, Fla., while surveying storm damage caused by Hurricane Helene and Milton. Biden announced over $600 million in recovery for the states affected by the hurricanes.
