For months, it’s been rumored that director Christopher Nolan is working on a new star-studded movie and Universal confirmed that it’s a film adaptation of Homer’s "The Odyssey."

And while it has been adapted to a film a few times prior, director Christopher Nolan is taking a crack at it, and as a classical literature fan I am so excited. Christopher Nolan has been hinting for a while that he has a new project in the works,

“ Christopher Nolan ’s next film ‘The Odyssey’ is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology,” said the studio. “The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.”

Nolan is also behind epic films including “Inception,” “The Dark Knight,” “Dunkirk” and his most recent film “Oppenheimer,” which scored big at last year’s Oscars when it took home the trophy for best picture. Nolan won that award as a producer, and also took home the Academy Award for best director.

Ahead of its production start next year, it has been revealed that Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming The Odyssey movie will be using a brand new IMAX camera technology for its filming. The project is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 17,

Universal Pictures has announced on X that Christopher Nolan’s next film is The Odyssey, based on the classic Greek mythic story and will be filmed with “new IMAX film technology”. What exactly this is has not been officially confirmed but most are speculating that this refers to the new film cameras that IMAX has publicly said it’s been working on for the last few years.
