Switzerland is "unequivocally committed" to sanctions against Moscow, the government said on Friday, after it decided not to adopt in full a package of European Union measures, a decision the U.S. ambassador said was disappointing.

Switzerland has decided not to fully implement the latest package of European Union sanctions against Russia, saying Swiss law already allows measures to prosecute subsidiaries of companies based in the country.

The European Union on Monday blacklisted five Moldovan pro-Russia politicians and one non-governmental organization promoting the Kremlin's destabilizing activities in the vulnerable former Soviet nation.
