Voters across Nova Scotia are heading to the polls today in municipal elections that will see new mayors elected in Nova Scotia's two biggest municipalities and dozens of new faces on councils across the province.

Nova Scotians will head to the polls Saturday as municipal elections are held across the province. In person voting with paper ballots will be available for each municipality, with polls open from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Locations of polling stations can be found on each municipality’s website.

A number of incumbents went down to defeat in Nova Scotia's municipal elections, including some high-profile mayors and a 30-year veteran of municipal politics.

He replaces outgoing Halifax mayor Mike Savage who led the city for over a decade, having been elected to the post in 2012, and who was named to become Nova Scotia's next lieutenant-governor. Fillmore is a former city planner who was first elected as a Halifax member of Parliament in the 2015 election that brought Justin Trudeau to power.
