NFL Power Rankings, Week 8: Packers, Chiefs win as Vikings earn first loss
Climbing up into the second spot in our Week 8 NFL Power Rankings, the Detroit Lions rode a 21-point second quarter and a late field goal from rookie kicker Jake Bates to knock off the undefeated Minnesota Vikings by a score of 31-29.
NFL Week 7 scores: Lions hand Vikings first defeat of 2024 on last-minute field goal
Down 29-28, the Lions ran the clock down to the 19-second mark. Their win rested on the foot of Bates, a 2023 undrafted free agent who signed with the Lions earlier this year. He'd never been involved in a kick like that during his short NFL career, but he nailed it, giving the Lions a 31-29 win.
