The Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday announced it has finalized a proposal known as “click to cancel” that requires companies to make it just as easy to cancel a subscription or service as it is to sign up for it.

The FTC’s rule mandates that publishers and other businesses simplify the process of canceling a subscription or membership.

“Too often, businesses make people jump through endless hoops just to cancel a subscription,” said Commission Chair Lina Khan. “The FTC’s rule will end these tricks and traps, saving Americans time and money. Nobody should be stuck paying for a service they no longer want.”
