The Cybercab announcement arrives near the end of a tumultuous year for Tesla. The company started 2024 down more than 40 percent from its 2021 peak, then dipped dramatically again until early April.

Tesla plans to launch fully autonomous driving in Texas and California next year, with the Cybercab entering production by 2026 — although he said it could be as late as 2027.
